We review the electoral and boundary arrangements of councils to make sure they are fair. Our reviews include at least two rounds of public consultation before we make recommendations for change.

Effective date
The Thurrock (Electoral Changes) Order 2025 was made in Parliament on 10 February 2025.
Please note that following the announcement of a postponement of elections in Thurrock, the dates in our Order will be superseded once the Government brings forward legislation to postpone the 2025 elections.

Making our recommendation into law
A draft Thurrock (Electoral Changes) Order 2025 was laid in Parliament on 12 December 2024.
If there is no successful objection by a member of the Commons or Lords within 40 parliamentary sitting days the draft Order will become law.
Final report
Our recommendations for new electoral arrangements were published on 3 December 2024.

Councillor numbers
The first stage of this electoral review is to determine the number of councillors who should represent the local authority in the future.
Effective date
The Borough of Thurrock (Electoral Changes) Order 2002 was made on 29 August 2002.
The new arrangements came into effect at the May 2004 elections.
