Effective date
New arrangements apply to elections from this date.
We review the electoral and boundary arrangements of councils to make sure they are fair. Our reviews include at least two rounds of public consultation before we make recommendations for change.

Consultation on revised proposals
From 2 September to 13 October 2025, we are accepting comments from the public on revised draft recommendations for central and western parts of North Yorkshire.

We have proposed a new pattern of divisions. We want to hear the views of local people and organisations to help us produce our recommendations for change.
As a result of our recommendations on new division patterns, we are making changes to the electoral arrangements for the following parish/town councils:

We have decided that North Yorkshire Council should have 89 councillors.
Effective date
The creation of North Yorkshire Council Unitary Authority
In March 2022, Parliament authorised the creation of a new unitary authority called North Yorkshire Council. The council replaced the authorities of North Yorkshire County Council, Craven District Council, Selby District Council, Scarborough Borough Council, Ryedale District Council, Harrogate Borough Council, Hambleton District Council and Richmondshire District Council.
