We review the electoral and boundary arrangements of councils to make sure they are fair. Our reviews include at least two rounds of public consultation before we make recommendations for change.
We are carrying out an electoral review of North Tyneside because it has been a long time since the last review.

Making our recommendation into law
Effective date
The North Tyneside (Electoral Changes) Order 2024 was made on 9 February 2024.
Parliamentary scrutiny of our recommendations
A Draft North Tyneside (Electoral Changes) Order 2024 was laid in Parliament on 12 December 2023.
If there is no successful objection by a member of the Commons or Lords within 40 parliamentary sitting days the draft Order will become law.

Consultation on revised proposals
From 25 July 2023 to 4 September 2023, we are accepting opinions and comments (submissions) from the public on changed draft recommendations for North Tyneside Borough Council.
The consultation focuses on new proposals for Borough ward boundaries, in the following areas:
