We review the electoral and boundary arrangements of councils to make sure they are fair. Our reviews include at least two rounds of public consultation before we make recommendations for change.
In May 2018, Parliament authorised the creation of a new local authority called West Suffolk Council. The council will replace the existing authorities of Forest Heath District Council and St Edmundsbury Borough Council.
The St Edmundsbury (Electoral Changes) Order 2001 was made on 4 December 2001.
The new arrangements came into effect at the May 2003 elections.
Our recommendations for new electoral and boundary arrangements were published on 26 June 2001.
Most recent and previous reviews are held on the UK Government Web Archive.
