We review the electoral and boundary arrangements of councils to make sure they are fair. Our reviews include at least two rounds of public consultation before we make recommendations for change.

In May 2018, Parliament authorised the creation of a new local authority called West Suffolk Council. The council will replace the existing authorities of Forest Heath District Council and St Edmundsbury Borough Council.

Effective date

The St Edmundsbury (Electoral Changes) Order 2001 was made on 4 December 2001. 

The new arrangements came into effect at the May 2003 elections.
