We review the electoral and boundary arrangements of councils to make sure they are fair. Our reviews include at least two rounds of public consultation before we make recommendations for change. 

Knowsley Council is currently under review. The initial consultation is ongoing and will end on 16 February 2026.

Councillor numbers

The first stage of this electoral review is to determine the number of councillors who should represent the local authority in the future.

The Commission has decided that the number of councillors in Knowsley should be 45, the same as now.

Effective date

The Knowsley (Electoral Changes) Order 2015 was made on 11 December 2015.

The new arrangements came into effect at the May 2016 elections.

Final report

Our recommendations for new electoral and boundary arrangements were published on 30 June 2015.
