Further information sought on Cheshire West and Chester Council's wards

24th March 2010

The independent Boundary Committee for England has opened a further limited period of consultation on Cheshire West & Chester Council’s warding arrangements to ensure local people get the most effective representation.

The consultation, which will end on 21 April 2010, calls for evidence in relation to the Saughall, Elton and Burton area. This covers the wards which were named in our draft recommendations as:

  • Saughall & Mollington
  • Elton
  • Little Neston & Burton

Archie Gall, Director of the Boundary Committee, said: "We’re very pleased with the response we’ve had to our draft recommendations for Cheshire West & Chester. It’s given us lots to think about. But before taking final decisions we're looking for more information and views on this specific area so that our final recommendations strike the right balance between reflecting community identities and achieving equality of representation for residents.

“Having fair electoral boundaries is important. They ensure that every voter in Cheshire West & Chester, wherever they live in the area, has a vote of the same weight when it comes to the election of councillors.”

The Committee will be writing to everyone who responded to its draft recommendations consultation in the area concerned to make them aware of the new consultation. Detailed information is available on the Committee’s website at and click on ‘Current consultations’ and go to the Cheshire West & Chester review.
