Somerset

  • Bath & North East Somerset

The Commission is carrying out an electoral review of Bath & North East Somerset Council.

The aim of the electoral review is to recommend ward boundaries that mean each councillor represents approximately the same number of voters. We also aim to ensure that the pattern of wards reflects the interests and identities of local communities as well as promoting effective local government. In order to achieve these aims, we need to re-draw ward boundaries across Bath & North East Somerset.

The aim of the electoral review is to recommend ward boundaries that mean each councillor represents approximately the same number of voters. We also aim to ensure that the pattern of wards reflects the interests and identities of local communities as well as promoting effective local government. To achieve these aims, we need to re-draw ward boundaries across South Somerset.

  • Taunton Deane

The Commission has decided to pause its electoral review of Taunton Deane Borough Council.

Given the development of plans for a merger between Taunton Deane Borough Council and West Somerset District Council, there is the possibility that a review of the internal ward boundaries of one of the authorities would quickly become redundant.

Before the Commission begins its formulation of draft recommendations, the most resource-intensive stage of a review, it has decided, in the interests of common sense, to pause the review until the outcome of merger plans is known.
