Mid Sussex
The Commission is carrying out an electoral review of Mid Sussex District Council.
The aim of the electoral review is to recommend ward boundaries that mean each councillor represents approximately the same number of voters.
We also aim to ensure that the ward boundaries reflect the interests and identities of local communities, as well as promoting effective local government.
To achieve these aims, we need to re-draw ward boundaries across Mid Sussex. You can find out more about the review below.

On 1 February 2022, we published final recommendations for future electoral arrangements in Mid Sussex District Council.
We have now completed our electoral review of Mid Sussex.

As a result of our final recommendations on new warding patterns, we are making changes to the parish electoral arrangements for the following parish and town councils:
- Ansty and Staplefield Parish Council
- Burgess Hill Town Council
- East Grinstead Town Council
- Haywards Heath Town Council
- Lindfield Rural Parish Council

The changes we have proposed must now be approved by Parliament.
A draft Order - the legal document which brings into force our recommendations - will now be laid before Parliament.
The draft Order will provide for the new electoral arrangements for Mid Sussex District Council to come into effect at the local elections in 2023.

The consultation on warding arrangements for Mid Sussex District Council closed on 31 May 2021
From 23 March 2021 to 31 May 2021, we are accepting opinions and comments (submissions) from the public on where you believe ward boundaries should be in Mid Sussex District Council.
The Commission now needs information from people and groups across Mid Sussex to help it to produce new ward boundaries to accommodate 48 councillors.

As part of the initial stages of the review, we consulted with Mid Sussex District Council on the most appropriate number of councillors to be elected to the council in future.
We received two submissions on council size:
The Commission is minded to recommend that 48 councillors should serve Mid Sussex District Council in the future. This is six fewer than the current number of councillors.

Mid Sussex Electoral Review 2002
An electoral review of Mid Sussex was started by the Local Government Commission for England (LGCE) on 10 July 2001, following the transfer of the LGCE's functions to The Electoral Commission on 1 April 2002, the review was completed by The Boundary Committee for England (BCFE).
The Order implementing The Electoral Commission's decision on the final recommendations of this review has been made and can be viewed on Her Majesty's Stationery Office's website. The Implementation Team section of the Commission's website explains how the Commission's decisions on The Boundary Committee for England's final recommendations are made into Orders. The current boundaries of the electoral wards and divisions can be viewed on Ordnance Survey's election maps website. Parish warding is not shown on the election maps website. It can be seen on the mapping from the Committee's final recommendations below; any modifications are listed in the Explanatory Note at the back of the Order.
