Suffolk County Council
The Commission is carrying out an electoral review of Suffolk County Council.
The aim of the electoral review is to recommend division boundaries that mean each councillor represents approximately the same number of voters.
We also aim to ensure that the division boundaries reflect the interests and identities of local communities, as well as promoting effective local government.
To achieve these aims, we need to re-draw division boundaries across Suffolk. You can find out more about the review below.

From 11 May 2021 to 21 June 2021, we are accepting opinions and comments (submissions) from the public on changed draft recommendations for Suffolk County Council
The consultation focuses on new proposals for County division boundaries, in the following areas:

The Commission has listened to the views of the public put to it during an earlier consultation, and now proposes to change its plans, to reflect the significance of the evidence we received.
Due to the significance of the proposed changes in the listed areas, the Commission is now accepting additional opinions and comments (submissions) from local people about the areas affected.
The Commission is satisfied with the evidence received for the rest of the county, and is therefore not seeking further opinions and comments (submissions) on areas other than those listed above.
The Commission plans to publish its final recommendations for the whole county on 31 August 2021.

On 15 September 2020, we published our draft recommendations for the electoral review of Suffolk County Council.
From 15 September 2020 to 23 November 2020, we are accepting opinions and comments (submissions) from the public on these recommendations for Suffolk County Council.

As a result of our draft recommendations on new division patterns, we are making changes to the parish electoral arrangements for the following parish and town councils:

Stowmarket Town Council

The consultation on the warding arrangements for Suffolk County Council closed on 13 January 2020.
Listed below are the submissions we received:
From 24 September to 13 January, we are accepting opinions and comments (submissions) from the public on where you believe division boundaries should be in Suffolk County Council.
The Commission is minded to recommend that Suffolk County Council should have 70 councillors in the future. This is 5 fewer than the current number of councillors.
The Commission now needs information from people and groups across Suffolk to help it to produce new division boundaries to accommodate 70 councillors.

As part of the initial stages of the review, we consulted with Suffolk County Council on the most appropriate number of councillors to be elected to the council in future.
We received 3 submissions on council size:
- Liberal Democrat, Green & Independent Groups on Suffolk County Council
- Conservative & Labour Groups on Suffolk County Council
- Councillor Nettleton
The Commission is minded to recommend that 70 councillors should serve Suffolk County Council in the future. This is 5 fewer than the current number of councillors.
