Local electoral arrangements for Cheshire West & Chester finalised

13th July 2010

The independent Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE) has published its final recommendations for new local government electoral arrangements for Cheshire West and Chester.

Today’s publication follows months of public consultation and draws boundaries for each ward in Cheshire West and Chester. The Commission published its draft recommendations, which provided for a council of 75 members, in November 2009 and today confirms that figure in its final recommendations.

Max Caller, Chair of the Local Government Boundary Commission for England, said: “Our recommendations determine how many councillors will serve on the council and which wards they will represent. We’re grateful to all those people across Cheshire West and Chester who submitted their views and assisted us to come up with a scheme that is fair in electoral terms as well as reflecting, as far as possible, community identities across the area.”

The proposed new arrangements must now be implemented by Parliament. An Order – the legal document which brings into force the recommendations – will be laid in Parliament in October. Parliament can either accept or reject the recommendations. If accepted, the new electoral arrangements will come into force at the next council elections in May 2011.
